Mono-Biomism

 My fiancée's been showing me Andor lately, and it's great. But I've been thinking about something I heard about how so many stories set in space treat planets like they're each one giant biome. What's with that? Ferrix is a big desert slum. that one beach world is just Biloxi but the entire planet. Stellaris super does this. Why?

I've also been watching Foundation, and the world building about that's a little better. Only a tiny amount.

Ok, Synnax is just a big ocean and all the culture is ocean, you caught me.
We see some tiny amounts of biome-diversity that makes the world feel slightly more like a real thing that actually exists. But why are space shows always like that?
